Using Google Tag Manager with Smart Cookie Popup
If your Google tags are managed in Google Tag Manager, you can let Smart Cookie Popup load your GTM container after consent and manage Consent Mode v2 for you. You only need one container ID, and you do not add any code yourself.
When to use GTM
Choose GTM if you already manage GA4, Google Ads, or other tags inside a Google Tag Manager container. With this setup, the app loads your container and handles consent for you.
Where to find your GTM ID
Open Google Tag Manager and select your account and container.
Look at the top of the workspace for your container ID.
It looks like GTM-XXXXXXX. Copy it.
Add this single ID to the Google Tag Manager ID field in Step 1 of the setup guide.
Remove old GTM installs from Wix
Before you go live, make sure the same container is not already loading somewhere else on your site. If it is, your tags can load twice. Check these places:
Wix Marketing Integrations: disconnect any Google Tag Manager connection that uses the same container.
Settings, then Custom Code: remove GTM snippets for the same container.
Other apps or embedded code that may add GTM.
Verify with GTM Preview mode
Save and activate your settings in the app.
Open your live site or a preview and accept cookies.
In Google Tag Manager, click Preview and connect to your site.
Confirm your tags fire after consent is given.
Tip: Use GTM Preview mode rather than the basic Test your website check.
Why Test your website may show false negatives
The Test your website tool often loads before consent is handled, so it can miss tags that a cookie consent app loads after the visitor chooses. That does not mean your tags are broken. GTM Preview mode gives you a more accurate picture, because you can accept cookies and then watch the tags fire.
